Living costs in Bangkok

Roughly 12,000 to 30,000 THB a month for a one-bedroom condo, widening fast the closer you get to a central station. Thailand pays less relative to cost than Vietnam, so most teachers here live well and save little.

Visa and paperwork

Non-Immigrant B visa converted to a work permit. Bachelor's required.

Can I start on a tourist visa and convert?

Technically yes but it's harder. Most schools and agencies prefer you arrive on a Non-B that you obtained outside Thailand. The cleanest path is to apply at a Thai consulate in Laos or Malaysia.
