ITTT TEFL Course Review 2026: Is the 120-Hour Certificate Enough to Get Hired?

Yes, a 120-hour TEFL certificate is enough to get hired for most entry-level ESL jobs abroad, and the ITTT 120-hour online course clears that bar. It will not make you a great teacher on its own. It will get your application past the first filter at a Korean hagwon, a Chinese training centre or a Vietnamese language school, and that is the job it exists to do. What Schools Actually Ask For

Before you compare courses, look at what the people hiring you write in their job ads. Across the listings on our jobs board, the same three requirements come up again and again: a bachelor's degree in any subject, a passport from a country the visa office treats as native English speaking, and a TEFL certificate of at least 120 hours.

That last number is not arbitrary. 120 hours has become the informal industry floor because it is what the major destinations converged on.

South Korea. The E-2 visa itself does not strictly require a TEFL, but the public school programmes and the large majority of hagwons do, and 100 to 120 hours is the figure they name. A TEFL also moves you up the pay scale at EPIK. Read the full picture in our South Korea guide.

China. Employers sponsoring a Z visa need to show the foreign expert bureau that you are qualified, and a 120-hour TEFL is the document most of them ask for from candidates without two years of teaching experience. See teaching in China.

Vietnam. Work permit applications need a teaching qualification of some kind, and the 120-hour TEFL is the one that language centres accept without a discussion.

Elsewhere. Thailand, Taiwan, Japan and most of Latin America treat it as strongly preferred rather than mandatory, and it makes a real difference to which schools reply.

What the Course Covers

ITTT's 120-hour course is fully online and self-paced. You get a unit-by-unit curriculum, a test at the end of each unit, and a final assessment. Most people finish in somewhere between two and twelve weeks depending on how many hours a week they put in; ITTT's own tagline says the same.

The content is the standard TEFL core:

Grammar for teachers. Tense systems, conditionals, modals, phrasal verbs, and how to explain them to a learner who does not have your intuition. If you are a native speaker who has never studied English grammar formally, this is the part you will actually use most.

Teaching methodology. Presentation, practice and production, task-based lessons, and when to use each.

Lesson planning. How to write an aim, sequence activities, and time a class so it does not run out ten minutes early.

Classroom management. Grouping, instructions, error correction, and what to do with a room of eight-year-olds at 4pm.

Teaching the four skills. Reading, writing, listening, speaking, and the receptive-versus-productive split.

Materials and resources. Coursebooks, authentic texts, and building your own.

There is an optional tutor track where a tutor marks your work and gives feedback, and a version without it. If you have never taught, pay for the tutor. Feedback on a lesson plan from someone who has taught is where the learning happens; ticking through multiple-choice unit tests is not.

What It Feels Like to Take

Honest picture: it is a reading-heavy course. Each unit is a text with worked examples, followed by a test. The platform is functional rather than beautiful. If you were hoping for hours of video of real classrooms, this is not that.

What it does well is give you the vocabulary and the structure. When an interviewer at a Seoul hagwon asks how you would teach the present perfect to a B1 class, you will have an answer that sounds like a teacher gave it. That is exactly the question the certificate exists to answer, and it does.

Expect 120 hours to mean somewhere around 120 hours of actual work if you take it seriously. People who race through in a weekend are the same people who tell you the course was useless.

Is It Recognised?

ITTT has been running since the late 1990s, is one of the larger online providers, and its certificates are accepted by the schools that accept online TEFLs at all, which is the majority of them in Asia and Latin America. Their catalogue copy says thousands of schools recognise the certificate, and that matches what we see on our own listings: employers ask for "120 hours from an accredited provider" and do not name specific brands.

The one place an online certificate is a weaker instrument is the top tier of the European market. British Council accredited schools in the UK, Spain or Italy, and international schools everywhere, tend to want a CELTA or a licence. If those are your target, ITTT is not the right spend.

Who Should Skip It

You have a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL. Those sit above a 120-hour online course in every school's eyes. Adding an ITTT certificate underneath adds nothing.

You have a teaching licence from your home country. A licensed teacher with a degree in education is more qualified than any TEFL will make them. Spend the money on flights.

You already have two or more years of documented classroom experience. Some Z visa employers waive the TEFL for experienced teachers. Check the specific job.

You are only teaching online for a platform that does not require one. Some do, some do not. Read the platform's requirements before paying.

If none of those apply, you are the person the course is for.

Should You Pay More for a Bigger Course?

ITTT also sells longer bundles: business English, young learners, and a diploma-level programme. The honest advice is that the 120-hour certificate is what gets you hired, and the add-ons are for after your first contract, when you know which direction you want to specialise in. Do not buy a 550-hour package before your first job. You will not know yet what you need.

Getting the Certificate to Work for You

A certificate only helps if the employer can see it and verify it. Three practical steps once you pass:

Get the hard copy. Some visa offices, notably in Vietnam and for certain Chinese provinces, want an original certificate that can be notarised and legalised. ITTT can post one; order it as soon as you finish rather than the week your school asks for it.

Put the hours on the CV. Write "ITTT 120-hour TEFL certificate (online, with tutor support)" on its own line under Qualifications, with the completion date. Recruiters scan for the number 120 and skip anything vaguer.

Keep the verification link. ITTT issues a certificate number that employers can check. Add it to your CV or have it ready in the interview. A school that has been sent a forged certificate before will ask.

It is not a substitute for a CELTA if you are aiming at the top of the European market, and it is not necessary if you already hold a higher qualification.
