How we source and check jobs and guides

Teachers use this site to make decisions about moving countries and signing contracts. This page says where our information comes from, what we do to keep bad listings out, and what we do when we get something wrong.

Where job listings come from

  • Schools and employers who post directly on ESL Careers.
  • Public listings from other teaching job boards, currently Ajarn, ESL Cafe, ESLBase and TESOL. Each imported listing links back to its original source, and we say so on the job page. Applications for imported listings go to the employer through that source or the contact in the ad.

What we check and reject

  • Imported listings are scored automatically before they appear. A listing has to be clearly about teaching English and pass a minimum quality score. Anything below it is not published.
  • Listings are rejected if the text asks for an application, processing or placement fee, asks you to pay before an interview, asks for a copy of your passport up front, mentions crypto or wire-transfer services, or says to contact the employer only through a messaging app.
  • Schools that pass a manual review by our team carry a Verified badge. A listing without the badge has not been through that review, so do your own checks before you sign anything.
  • Automated checks miss things. Every job page has a way to report a listing, and we remove reported listings that break these rules.

How listings expire

Listings have an expiry date. Expired listings are taken down and are not re-listed as new. If you find a closed job still showing, report it and we will remove it.

How our guides are written

  • Visa, programme and pay figures are taken from official sources where they exist, such as government and programme websites, and the article names the source and the date we read it.
  • Where we could not confirm a figure from a primary source, the article says whose number it is, or leaves it out. We would rather print no number than a plausible one.
  • Pay and cost figures change. Treat them as a starting point and confirm with the employer and the immigration authority before you commit.
  • Articles are published under ESL Careers Editorial and are not individually bylined.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, email hello@esl.careers with the page link and the correct information, ideally with a source. We fix confirmed errors and update the page’s modified date.

How we make money

Read our affiliate and revenue disclosure. In short: schools pay to post, and some links on the site earn us a commission. Teachers never pay to apply.
