Translation mode vs. communication mode

Word-by-word translation during an answer can make phrasing slower or less natural. Translation is also a useful planning tool: use your first language when it helps you organize evidence, then practise expressing the idea in clear English. You do not need a perfect translation of every word. Keep the meaning accurate and choose language the listener understands.

Word-by-word: "I have the responsibility of managing the team of five persons."

Translated, grammatically OK but stiff.

Idea-first: "I manage a team of five."

Natural, clear, confident.

Tip

Shorter sentences are your friend. They're easier to construct, easier to understand, and they sound more confident.
