ESL Careers market context

How this pay compares in Thailand

This listing vs. the local range

฿68,000 / month sits at the upper end of the 45k to 70k THB per month our Thailand guide lists for bilingual schools.

Visa and paperwork

Three separate things are involved: a Non-Immigrant B visa, a work permit from Thailand's Ministry of Labour (applied for by your employer), and, for school teaching, permission or a licence from the Teachers' Council of Thailand. A bachelor's degree is the usual baseline for school roles.

What's the Teachers' Council process?

Under the Thai government's temporary-permit guidance updated in 2023, a school can request permission for a foreign teacher who has no licence yet: age 20 or over, and a degree in education or a bachelor's in a field the school needs (or a foreign teaching licence if you have no degree). Permission is granted for up to 2 years at a time and 6 consecutive years in total, and you must qualify for the licence within that time. Training requirements and details change, so check the Teachers' Council website or ask your school.
