ESL Careers market context
How this pay compares in Thailand
This listing vs. the local range
฿80,000 / month sits at the lower end of the 80k to 150k THB per month our Thailand guide lists for international schools.
Living costs in Bangkok
Roughly 12,000 to 30,000 THB a month for a one-bedroom condo, widening fast the closer you get to a central station. Thailand pays less relative to cost than Vietnam, so most teachers here live well and save little.
Visa and paperwork
Three separate things are involved: a Non-Immigrant B visa, a work permit from Thailand's Ministry of Labour (applied for by your employer), and, for school teaching, permission or a licence from the Teachers' Council of Thailand. A bachelor's degree is the usual baseline for school roles.
Can I teach at international schools in Thailand without the Teachers' Council licence?
International schools generally hire on their own credentialing standards (typically requiring a home-country teaching licence). Whether the Teachers' Council licence or permission applies depends on the school type, so confirm with the school.
