Teach English in Incheon, South Korea
Seoul-adjacent with cheaper rent and the international airport.
Incheon hosts a large hagwon market, especially around Songdo, the purpose-built international business district. Many teachers live in Incheon and commute into Seoul, or live in Seoul and commute out, because the two cities share a subway network and the journey is ordinary rather than exceptional. Listings here often quote the commute in minutes from a named station rather than an address.

Neighborhoods
Songdo for international schools, newer buildings and the highest-paying academies. Bupyeong and Guwol for the densest ordinary hagwon market and the cheapest rent on the subway. Yeonsu for a middle ground between the two. Jung-gu near the airport for staff who need to fly often.
Cost of living
Around 1.2M to 1.8M KRW a month outside housing, the lowest of the three major Korean markets on this site. Songdo is the exception and prices closer to Seoul. Airport Railroad and Line 1 put central Seoul within about an hour, which is why many teachers treat Incheon as a cheaper bedroom for a Seoul job.
Best for
Teachers who want Seoul access without Seoul prices, and anyone targeting the international-school track, which is concentrated in Songdo rather than spread across the city.
South Korea at a glance
Salary: Public schools (EPIK): roughly 2.2M to 2.8M KRW per month with housing provided by the office of education (Seoul has its own scale; source: EPIK pay page, checked 6 Oct 2026). Hagwons: 2.1M to 2.8M KRW with housing or stipend. Universities: 2.3M to 3.5M KRW with shorter contact hours.
Visa: E-2 visa for most roles. Requires a bachelor's degree, a clean criminal record check, and citizenship from one of seven approved countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa). A TEFL certificate of 100 hours or more is the usual expectation (EPIK's minimum is 100 real-time hours, and it is waived for a teaching licence or an education degree).
