ESL Careers market context
How this pay compares in China
This listing vs. the local range
20,000 RMB-30,000 per month sits at the upper end of the 12k to 22k RMB per month our China guide lists for public schools. It also falls inside the range we publish for universities and training centers.
Living costs in Shanghai
Roughly 5,000 to 12,000 RMB a month for a one-bedroom depending on how central, and the range is wide enough that where you live matters more than what you earn. Check whether an allowance is paid or the flat is provided before comparing two offers.
Visa and paperwork
Z visa. Requires a bachelor's degree and a criminal record check (notarized and apostilled).
Is online teaching of Chinese students still possible?
Not for K-9 students inside China. Adult-focused online teaching to Chinese learners through global platforms is allowed but pays much less than the old VIPKid era.
